Cultural Exchanges. And Traveling. And Piercings!

Hey guys!

So today one of my friends talked to me about culture exchanging – y’know, when you go study in another country to learn their culture – and how she wants to go to Germany. According to her, all expenses are paid but – I don’t know. (shrug) If I could, I would definitely do a cultural exchange to (South) Korea, Japan, Germany with aforementioned friend, Italy, Spain or England. The last one does sound a bit pointless, seeing as I already speak English, but I want to go to at least one place where I speak the language. Besides, England is a lot different from Malaysia and Canada – I want to see the differences.

I would go study in Bahrain, where the lovely girlfriend of mine lives, but it would be intensely awkward if we break up. :[  I will, however, definitely visit Bahrain, and aforementioned girlfriend, one day if we haven’t broken up (I dearly hope not). This is not an option for me.

(I also just found out that I could go there for about 1500$, round trip with fees and taxes included. I shall work like a slave if I have to.)

If I mentioned this to anyone in my family from my mother’s generation, he or she would most definitely ask: “But why don’t you go with your mother, your family? You wouldn’t have to pay for the trip then.”

It’s because any family member I go with will form an opinion about the place, and then try to make me think the same thing. Also, he or she (most likely she) will hold the fact that she took me on a trip over my head whenever I do something wrong, which I assure you, I do 90% of the time in their eyes.

But that’s just me being a bitter little girl.

In any case, I’d rather go with a friend than family. I feel my friends understand me better than my family because they’re basically going through the same phases I am and criticize a lot less, and don’t try to assimilate me, whereas adults… well, their adolescence was very different from mine and I doubt they can relate much. Also, I find a prominent liking of criticism within my aunts and uncles and mother… coincidence? I think not!

Again, bitterness…

On a different note, I also want to go traveling the world – with or without friends. I want to get a taste of as many things as possible, learn as many languages as possible (for that I would need at least four months each) and take so many photos… I also want to make a video of me hooping in each of the countries, it would be awesome, I think. I want to send out a message with that, but I have no idea what. I only know that I want to hoop and poi in every country I go.

But first, there are exams to ace and tricks to learn…

Also, piercings to consider having. Nothing drastic, of course – I’m just having trouble deciding whether or not I want to have:

(1) one piercing on each ear lobe;

(2) two on my right and one on my left;

(3) one on my right and two on my left; or

(4) two on both sides.

That is all… for now. But I don’t see myself getting any more, I think my personality makes up for my plain appearance. If anyone would help me decide, I would be grateful. (None of that ‘you shouldn’t change who you are’ nonsense.) Cost is not a factor; I will have a job in January.

‘Til next time!

A New Language! Or Two. Or Three…

Hey guys, I might need a little help here.

Being obsessed with KPop, I thought it would be awesome if I learned Korean. However, I’m trying to learn Japanese by myself, (it’s quite difficult) and I’ve stopped studying for a while, with school and KPOP and all that. I still know basics, though. My girlfriend, however, is taking Tagalog because she wants to study in the Philippines, and I think it’d be awesome if we both spoke Tagalog. Being in America, however, people have told me that Spanish can be very useful, so I wouldn’t mind learning that too.

Difficulty is not a big problem – I’m quite good at languages (if I do say so myself). I speak English, French, Mandarin and a bit of Cantonese (not very fluently; I learned it off my mother when we went to restaurants). I used to speak Malay when I was in Malaysia, but y’know. There aren’t many Malays in Canada, so I forgot about 95% of it. – Make that 99%. I can’t speak it fluently.

No – the problem is, I don’t know where to start. All I need to really speak Japanese is practice; I’ve done most of the grammar. I can put that behind for a while, I think. Korean worries me, because have you seen them letters? Incomprehensible! Tagalog seems quite similar to Malay (correct me if I’m wrong), and Spanish is similar to French.

And you might have noticed, I need help making up my mind. I’m leaning towards Korean at the moment, yay all you Korean-speakers! Comment with tips if you have any. I should go begin now. Wish me luck ^.-

By the way, it’s surprising how so many Korean stars speak more than one language. Look it up, you’d be shocked.

Who, What, Why (An Introduction Post)

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , on October 10, 2011 by kerri3lyss
My alter identity name is Kerri Lyss; I turn 16 in November, 2011. I was born in Malaysia and moved to Canada when I was twelve. I live on Earth. I used to care about what people think of me, and now I try not to. It’s working.
My favorite colors are blue, purple, black, white, scarlet and turquoise. I like drawing, writing, singing, dancing (not very well, though), beading, swimming and goodness knows what else. My favorite number is 7 because someone in church told me it was God’s favorite number. I don’t know if that’s true, but I still like the number 7. Upside-down it’s an L, for Lyss. I’d take a jasmine over a rose any day, their scent is less impossible to catch. I like willow trees and fog and lakes and mist and anything water except ice, snow and steam.
I also really like sushi, sashimi, ice-cream, bubble tea, cheesecake, Asian dramas and my girlfriend halfway across the world. (Long-distance, like a boss.) =P I also change my hairstyle a lot, maybe one day I’ll post a picture. I don’t know.
